Herbal Energies to Cope with Isolation and Recover from Isolation Trauma

Herbs are not like pills which while being ‘active’ do not carry living consciousness. Herbs have consciousness just like us and that is why they are the medicine of choice and instinct for animals in our world.

They have the nutrients to help our bodies when we’re running low. And they have the natural intelligence and consciousness to help out emotionally and spiritually so we can really heal and not just be helped in the moment.

For those who are or feel isolated, herbs are a gentle friend to help us find our way.

There are 3 kinds of isolation.

1) Isolation caused by physically moving out of your comfort zone.

This is like when a child moves out of home to university, or you leave your home town for another place.

Understanding that along with physical changes our emotional and spiritual environment has also changed will go a long way in helping us make a smooth transition.

There are several long term conditions that arise out of not reestablishing roots properly in a new environment, metabolic imbalance, chronically low immunity and so on.

There are many ways to cope with change of this kind, but my favorite is herbs. Please read the following article for herbs for reestablishment.

Herbs for Life Changes -To Support Re-Establishment, Brain Function; Vitality

2) Isolation without physically moving out.

An example of this kind of isolation is when there is a new addition to a family and the older members feel like they aren’t getting as much attention or care as before.

My favorite way of understanding and treating this kind of isolation is the Banyan Tree or Ficus Benghalensis.

This is one amazing tree. It has such a robust root system that while it is a young adult, it’s roots are competing already for resources, so it starts putting out roots from its above ground branches!

As time goes by, its branches spread out horizontally and let down roots that grow really long and finally reach the ground themselves. This new ‘root’ then begins to function like a tree all on its own!

So in time, what looks like a forest is actually one tree that spread out.

That’s all just one tree.

When we have that understanding that we are one life form in many bodies, that we are the one tree, we begin to find new ways to get sustenance and our family can grow, our team and organization can grow beautifully.

The Ficus (the fig is a member of this family) is also filled with nutrients to help the conditions caused by feeling isolated right on ones own home zone.

Connective tissue disorders, respiratory difficulty, sudden premature aging, anxiety disorders and self hatred are various manifestations of being unable to find new ways to connect within the home zone.

3) Isolation when you are out of your element altogether.

When you feel like a fish out of water, so totally isolated that you might as well be on another planet, and time goes by and you are not able to put down roots, you need to take action to care for yourself.

An example of this sort of life crisis is a sportsman who because of a bad injury or illness now has to face a whole new sort of life out of the sports world.

Another example is someone in an organization in which the culture is so starkly cold, dry, unfeeling and competitive compared to the warmhearted living emotional environment they were used to before.

Another example is someone who has moved to a place with a culture whose core values clash with their own drastically.

Another example is children growing up without knowing the truth about their birth identity. The body and therefore the soul is not able to pick up cues from a culture and environment it is not racially programmed to.

There are 3 most common manifestations of this sort of serious isolation.

1) Hormonal imbalance

A lack of energy is hormonal imbalance right there. Depression is hormonal imbalance.

We get our cues for hormonal balance from our environment both physical and otherwise. Imagine if we’re cut off, or not getting or cues right. It immediately begins to show as low energy and rapidly lessening motivation and we have to do more and more just to keep functional while our quality of life keeps sliding down.

Our sexual being IS our being so it can become a severe life crisis if we don’t deal with it.

2) Loss of skill

If you find that you cannot do something with the same skill and gusto you once used to do it, it’s a sign that you’ve been affected by serious isolation.

You’ve had such a shock, or such a lack of resources that your system’s bridges and connections are actually disconnected. Your fingers are taking twice as long to react to your brain’s messages.

Read on for help.

3) Rejection

Very often when we simply cannot acclimatize to an environment, we end up rejecting it and then ourselves with it.

Sexual self rejection where the person just gives up on ever finding pleasure and triggers off premature aging processes, is a common result of someone simply not able to put roots into an environment their soul has rejected.

‘Rejection’ is a word some consider bad but most often it takes a strong spirit and a highly developed intellect, and a courageous character to reject one’s environment.

It’s the spirit refusing to become part of something it doesn’t agree with in some core, vital, ways.

Such people end up being the ones who cause consciousness change because they eventually hold their own so steadfastly that others begin to follow their lead.

They are perhaps the most amazing form of mass healing.

But it isn’t easy being them.

In such a situation a person has to develop ways out of the usual, to receive and give energy so they can keep living and finish whatever it is they’re in that environment for.

I have 5 favorite herbs to deal with this serious isolation and which help the other two as well.

1) Cypress

The tall Cypress is an evergreen tree that grows straight up, holds its own nature in isolation. It’s often planted as a wind breaker as it will protect houses near it from strong winds.

An old Italian cypress juts into a stormy sky

How the Cypress manages to grow up so straight is its everyday sensitivity to every little breeze. It is so aware that every time it could relax and grow just a little sideways, it doesn’t. It asserts its own direction and so grows up straight.

For all that fastidiousness, the essential oil of Cypress us one of the most relaxing fragrances known. Apparently holding your own in all things great and small, results in a nature that’s truly truly relaxed.

2) Mugwort or Artisemia

I call it a bridge engineer because of how it helps a nervous system gone splintered with shock or weakness, connect back up.

It’s not just first-aid. Taken over a long period it helps a person develop ways to face antagonizing situations calmly and courageously.

3) Heather – Calluna Vulgaris

Heather helps one remember their own way of being no matter that the time and situation has changed.

It gives you that extra perception of the ‘big picture’ that you need when you’re in an environment you really hate. It helps you identify reasons why you’re there and ways to benefit from your time there.

It helps your body’s basic processes like digestion and respiration normalize from being frenetic sometimes and lethargic at other times.

4) Mistletoe – Viscum Album

Mistletoe is called a parasitic plant because it grows on trees. In fact, it is more of a spirit plant in a way, as so much of its energy is of the barely-physical, subtle kind.

It’s my first line of treatment for any kind of hormonal imbalance because if how it inspires the rise of primal sexual identity in a person, helping the person reaffirm their natural being and balancing hormone production in the body.

There’s a sort of widespread hormonal problem these days, that’s simply hormonal insufficiency. That means the person just doesn’t make enough hormones, and goes through life in a rather lustless way. I meant to type listless, but my phone came up with lustless and I think that’s just right there.

Mistletoe brings up primal sexual identity which is very basic motivation for life and all living.

5) The Ghost Plant, Indian Pipes – Monotropa Uniflora and Datura Stramonium

The stunning beauty called ‘Indian Pipes’ or the ‘Ghost Plant’ grows in many places but is reported most often as growing in Eastern Massachusetts, USA.

Monotropa uniflora, Indian-pipe

This plant doesn’t even grow directly on other plants, it actually gets the few physical nutrients it gets from fungi underground that get some nutrition from tree roots.

This plant is so held in form by vibration field rather than physical structure that it melts like wax when you touch it.

It’s learned to have a presence in this realm without compromising on its own unique nature.

The ghost plant helps those who need their high emotional and spiritual sensitivity to identify signs from the spirit coming through an environment that otherwise doesn’t support them, and make a way to live for as long as they need to in that environment.

A close partner of this plant is Datura Stramonium or Jimsonweed which can be taken in an extremely diluted dose – 1 drop of Datura Stramonium light infusion in water to 100ml of spring water.

I’ve clubbed them together because they work so well together.

While the ghost plant helps you identify ways to connect to your spiritual environment, Stramonium brings out into your awareness, rather dramatically, all the things in you that you hate about yourself, things you developed to survive in the environment you’ve rejected.

Any real healing requires exhuming things buried in the subconscious and this pair of Stramonium and the Ghost Plant do such a beautiful job together.

They’re both available online or at homeopathic stores in diluted forms.

They are life changing.

Chilblains & Raynaud’s Syndrome – Herbs to Balance Body Temperature

As a sufferer of severe Raynaud’s where my finger joints would go purple and black every winter, I’ve given a lot of thought to this condition and tried all kinds of treatments for it till I finally found something that really worked.

Creams that have lanolin (sheep fat) work the best to create a layer of protection from the cold, and the topical application of Winter Cherry, Spikenard, Datura and other herbs that create warmth locally, are necessary as you will have to keep your fingers and toes as warm as possible.

However, despite all that, the basic condition persists in those whose body temperature and therefore metabolism  isn’t stable.

For those whose body temperature has fallen chronically beneath the norm, herbal teas that warm up the body – Rosehips and Nettle for example, can help. For those who are running a higher than normal temperature, Chamomile is a tea that can help.

But those are very temporary fixes and their effect is limited.

To truly get your fingers and toes back to normal, hormonal rehabilitation through balancing body temperature is the only thing to do. It took me all of three years to achieve, but it did finally happen.

These are the herbs I took regularly and which are part of my Herbal Treatment for Raynaud’s Syndrome:

Mistletoe

All the work of making hormones and then transporting them to where they’re needed, and then using them the way they’re supposed to be used – the whole process is dependent on the body maintaining a stable temperature.

A drastic change in temperature starts off new processes and you don’t want a new one starting off while the previous one is still half-way done.

Mistletoe has all the nutrition as well as intelligence and energy to support the body’s own temperature balance mechanisms in getting back up to efficient.

If you’re wondering how that mechanism gets out of order in the first place, it’s over-stimulation and over-adrenalizing with inadequate sleep and rest and recovery. Remember puberty? It probably started then, habits developed then, Mistletoe can help us break out of.

Although Mistletoe in a dose of a drop or two of the concentrated extract will help heart rate and blood pressure stabilize in the moment, its true healing effects can be experienced when taken in small doses over months, maybe even a year or more. A break of a week or two or a little more in-between would be good idea though.

Cactus Grandiflora

is an efficient balancer of the nervous system frequency and in doing that stabilizes the function of the heart. This tones up circulation everywhere without causing any sudden increase in circulation and the subsequent drop. It is exactly that sort of instability that is counter-productive to treating Raynaud’s Disease.

Herbs that boost circulation, like garlic for example, should always be taken in responsible doses and as part of food rather than in strong herbal extract form when you’re trying to get the body to keep its temperature stable – which is what we’re trying to do with this herbal treatment.

Gelsemium or Yellow Jasmine

is a relaxer and calmer of the nervous system too and helps stabilize the extremes of temperature that cause Raynaud’s symptoms. It has the added usefulness of being helpful in moments of stress as a cooler of the brain and overheated nerve endings.

Pulsatilla or Pasque Flower

relaxes the tight and taut nerves in and around the abdomen, including the digestive system and the reproductive system. When this area is all tied up, the body cannot really do much. The reproductive organs are connected in many ways to the hormonal glands in the brain and need to be relaxed so the glands can do their job of maintaining temperature balance.

Gotu Kola

Gotu Kola
Gotu Kola

has the nutrition and intelligence required to support healing and balance all over the body. In this herbal combination it offers vital nutrients that make it possible for nerves and muscles to interact with each other without the sudden cramping and release associated with undernourished nerves and muscles.

Wheatgrass

is rehabilitation for the liver and in fact all organs in one way or another. Its simple powerful nutrition makes it possible for the liver to get back into robust function managing hormonal balance in the blood, which in turn supports the maintenance of a stable temperature of the body.

The Fig

has natural sugars and nutrients that comfort and replenish a body depleted and tired by instability in temperature and hormones. This contributes to a feeling of well-being and satisfaction in the nervous system and prevents the sudden nerve-shock that comes just before Raynaud’s attacks.

The White Willow

is a famous pain-killer and the source of Aspirin. In this herbal treatment it is used for its effect on circulation and the consequent lessening of inflammation and pain anywhere in the body. Taken as first-aid it works as a pain-killer, taken in small doses regularly over weeks and months, it helps clean up the circulatory system in a gentle but thorough way and prevents the coagulation in blood vessels that promote Raynaud’s Disease.

Herbs to Strengthen the Heart, Build Emotional Resilience

When you strengthen the heart, you strengthen every part of you and find relief from problems that were not responding before.

To strengthen a weak or tired heart, on every level, herbs can help. They’re living beings like us. They open our sub-conscious tunnels and caves and cupboards, awaken deep things in us and help us see and hear what we need to to find our way.

When the physical heart is weak or unstable, it is a clarion call from our consciousness to repair ourselves from deep deep within.

Borage for disappointment with no silver linings
Cactus for nervous instability, recovery from shock
Damiana for uterine, sexual and reproductive system blocks
Violet for lymphatic sluggishness
Milk Thistle for congestion in the body such as after a large meal
Dandelion for tightness around the diaphragm, solar plexus
Mistletoe for when you’re too cold or too hot
Rose Petals and Rosehips to release blocked up energy

Borage for disappointment with no silver linings

Imagine a flower wilting in harsh dry weather. Do you feel like that emotionally and physically? Do you feel overwhelmed by all you have to do and like you would like to give up the fight? Borage is the plant that will pull the focus of your consciousness down to simpler things, to the center of your body where the complications that confuse our heads don’t matter that much, and where what we need to do in the moment is clear. This clarity is relaxing and strengthening for the heart.

Physically the heart rate normalizes and the production of stress hormones in the blood begins to reduce.

When you have Borage, after about thirty minutes, flush your system with water, to get the stress hormones out.

Cactus for nervous instability, recovery from shock

Do you feel like you’re standing on the roof of a shaking building? Or like you’re being pulled and jerked about in different directions? Like one part of you is in one place and another in quite the opposite direction? Like your heart is being torn wanting opposite things at the same time and with equal desperation?

Desperation is the keyword here. We feel emotional desperation when we are torn in different directions and cannot seem to find harmony.

A physical heart in the throes of such feeling has an unstable heart rate, flutterings, fibrillation and does not pass the blood through the chambers smoothly. Overall, the heart is weaker as a result and the entire body suffers the effects of this instability.

Cactus helps us find emotional and physical energetic balance. As a result, the heart is able to gather its energy up rather than have it splayed and splashed in different directions. This heals the physical heart, calms the nervous system and therefore the entire body.

It relieves the troubled emotions by consolidating them so we can face what it is that is really troubling us instead of being distracted by a million little things that would resolve on their own if we would just look at what really is the matter.

Damiana for uterine, sexual and reproductive system blocks

Do you feel like you cannot feel the sweetness of life anymore? Like you cannot even feel your own self anymore?

When a person rejects their own sexual being sub-consciously, the reproductive organs go static, something like playing statue in front while struggling to keep functioning at the back because it’s necessary to keep living.

Now, our sexual being is our primal being. And believe it or not, our heart is the center of our sexual energy.

When the organs of the reproductive system go energy static or tense, the heart feels it immediately and reacts by going into a sort of freeze, waiting for the situation to resolve. Blood circulation slows, hormonal release reduces to a trickle, slowly, life itself comes to a freeze.

An obvious symptom of this condition is not feeling turned on sexually or otherwise as much as usual, as much as you need to feel fully alive.

If you feel frozen, numb, static, stuck, Damiana will help relax the organs of the reproductive system which hold and express our primal being, and this in return releases the heart’s static, allowing it to beat fully and get blood moving around the system.

Several acute cases of circulation inefficiency have been relieved by Damiana where the usual circulation support herbs failed to make much of a difference.

On a physical level, if the heart does not beat FULLY, seems like it stops or is constricted and the chest in general feels constricted, Damiana is the herb.

Violet for lymphatic sluggishness

Do you feel like there are blank spaces in you that noting gets through? Like you keep hitting a wall and all the momentum you had is suddenly gone and you don’t know why?

When we have ‘numb’ zones in our consciousness, it manifests in areas of our body’s lymphatic system becoming sluggish. Our lymphatic system is simply the places between our bodies, the drainage areas. Sluggishness here makes the whole body feel weighed down, slow, heavy, inflexible, numb.

On an emotional level we feel like we have too much baggage and not enough strength to really let go or what we know deep down, we have to let go of, to be free and light enough to move on.

Heaviness, is the key word here. Too heavy? Get Violet to help.

The physical heart feels strengthened by the Violet’s ability to make the consciousness rest. This sort of rest means, the relaxation of all that which is holding in what should be let go of. Tiny little nerve endings relax. The whole body on a deep deep level feels able to let go.

Everything feels a lot easier. Movement itself becomes easier.

When you take Violet, you will feel like moving more than usual. It doesn’t have to be about exercise. You have things to do, and you will feel like doing them. You might even feel frenetic. Just do whatever you feel like doing from your heart.

Fenugreek seed tea, Quis Qualis Indica and other herbs for lymphatic cleansing will help clear out what’s now ready to be cleared out.

Milk Thistle for congestion in the body such as after a large meal

Do you feel morose and morbid? And pessimistic and dark? And cynical and pissed off about everything? Milk Thistle will comfort you.

When a person’s most simplest desires, like the simple primal desire of a baby for his or her mother’s milk, has been denied and this pattern plays out again and again in life, the person often becomes the perpetrator of this disappointment, denying themselves their primal and little desires, finding logic and rationality to deny themselves pleasure.

This makes the body confused in its management of fat, oils and other substances which nourish us. The body begins to throw out what we need, keep what we don’t need and then when the mess has gone beyond the scope of a one day clean up job, the garbage just tends to start piling up all over wherever.

Milk Thistle’s message on an emotional and on a physical level is “I can be happy and satisfied again, like I was at my mother’s breast.”

Physically, instead of rejecting nutrition or not knowing what to do with it, the body begins to work with it. That which was stored up out of confusion is now slowly thrown out.

No, it is not a quick process, but it works.

The heart that physically was strained, pushing and pushing and then lapsing into fatigue, the condition called ‘cardio myopathy’ is relieved by the change brought about by Milk Thistle – or Silybum Mariana or Carduus Mariana.

Emotionally we stop being a struggler, straining for love, and begin instead to allow ourselves to experience the simple pleasures of life. This changes everything.

Dandelion for tightness around the diaphragm, solar plexus

Do you feel like the world’s problems are your problems? Do you feel the weight of responsibility beyond your capacity to carry? Do you feel alone in carrying your burden?

Dandelion is the herb to help.

When you feel burdened, it’s most often because you feel like you have lost some form of support or strength you counted on, without which you feel lost and bereft.

Loss is the keyword here. A deep sense of loss, perhaps from long ago, maybe even from early childhood, makes the consciousness and the body feel like a loser. The perception that we don’t have the support we need to make it through life pervades, making the body under function.

Little puppies separated from their mothers, the young student in a new city, the newly weds who find themselves no longer as much part of their old family or community, anyone who feels isolated from support, could use Dandelion’s help.

Dandelion looks up to the sky, and believes in God. “Someone made me. The force which made me, will sustain me.”

It’s that simple.

The physical heart which was struggling to function, it’s beat becoming more and more feeble, then making a bid for normalcy before sinking again, now begins to beat calmly and without the struggle.

Mistletoe for when you’re too cold or too hot

Do you feel uncomfortable, like the sheets are too warm close to you, but too cold on the other side? Like the grass is greener on the other side, but you know if you go over there, you’ll only want to come back here?

This weird feeling of wanting something, a LOT, but not enough to making you actually go towards it, is helped by Mistletoe.

A consciousness that is in a state of self denial because of having a split opinion or because of desiring what seems like two opposite things, and therefore being unable to move in either direction, is usually in that situation because of unresolved emotional pain.

Unresolved pain messes with our perception on many levels making us unable to look at what we really want in life. To compensate for this lack of emotional perception, we develop a personality and a life based on logic, on the advice of others, on books that tell us what to do, when to do it, how to do it.

A most simple form of healing is to let go of all the learning in the head, and do what we feel like doing.

Releasing rigid mental control and assessment of our life energy, of our lives, allows the body and the consciousness to find its own balance and resolve old emotional pain.

Mistletoe lives like that… simply. “I’m here, you’re here, hello.

The physical heart, which is also the center of the hormonal system, stops going into frenzies and panic followed by the general debility and slump that comes after being so worked up. Adrenal exhaustion lessens and the body slowly becomes stable and functional again.

Rose Petals and Rosehips to release blocked up energy

Suppressed anger, repressed rage, but unable to come out to the surface. “How can I ever be angry enough?” is the feeling here, “I might as well seethe or simmer or just forget about it for now. What can I do about it anyway?”

We are taught in so many ways through life, that the ‘use’ of an emotion is to make some action happen. If you fall in love, you must kiss, you must have sex. If you like drawing, you must become an artist. If you like dancing, you must go to dance lessons. If you like cooking, you should open a restaurant.

It’s good to use our talents, but this attitude when taken too far, makes a person begin to feel impotent and incapacitated over time. Like the limbs are tied up.

Good things become a pain.. who wants to hear the whole ‘you draw so well, you should develop this talent’ rhetoric all over again even if it’s only in your own head?

The Rose is about feeling what we’re feeling without stopping it because we cannot see where it’s going. It’s about freedom to feel, without judgment. This is the basis of courage and bravery.

The warrior is not the one who yells on the battlefield and charges at the energy. He is the one who allows his feelings, his love, his anger, his desire, to shape his life and his destiny. Before the battle, he knows he has won, because his feelings have brought him to this moment, because he walked the path his every day feelings led him on, and just how he wakes and sleeps moved by those feelings, so he will know how to fight the battle.

The heart is FED by feelings. A physical heart that is weak and insufficient, tired and hopeless, jaded, and which turns away from sunshine and hope, benefits from the fearless Rose – whether the petals or the fruit.

———————————

There is another aspect to strengthening the heart, resolving identity crises. Hawthorn, Oleander, Nettle are some of the herbs which help, but there is so much to say there, so we will talk about how they work another time.

Holistic Rejuvenation of Heart, Blood and Bone Marrow Function

One of the body’s most common responses to hidden or suppressed trauma is a steady decline in the quality of blood cells being made.

This is why people ‘age’ suddenly when they have a tragedy or loss that ‘takes the life’ out of them.

This situation can also be caused by actual loss of physical blood, starvation and deprivation over a long period of time (especially in the case of women) and various emotional situations.

The most common cause however is the person doesn’t WANT to live anymore if that’s the way life is. A fall in blood quality and quantity is very simply the life energy withdrawing and the body and psyche being in a state of waiting for something to make the person want to live again.

Nearly every person I’ve ever made medicine for who has had the combination of anemia, fatigue, lessened hair quality or hair loss, lessened bone strength, has been able to remember an event or string of events through which they lost their zest for life.

Not in every case, but often enough, for me to mention it here, this combination of symptoms comes with the person clinging to an illusion or delusion about something. Denial of a painful truth. It takes so much energy to hold up the burden of this big illusion, the poor person is just drained of energy and finds no energy left to do anything else.

Now every soul knows what they have to do for life to be acceptable again, to be free of energy heaviness.

But this often hides behind the noise of our conscious mind with our thoughts and worries loud all day and even all night long.

To reach the point where we can hear what our heart wants us to hear, there are many ways. Some walk, some run, some sleep. The thing to remember is, if you’re not getting there through your normal routine, you have to do something you’re not doing yet.

Awareness is Resolution – Feeling your Heartbeat

I have seen amazing healing happen through the power of awareness. Remember that the whole point of illness is to call our attention and awareness to a particular area of the body.

However painful, get brave and become aware of the weak zones. Energy flows where awareness goes.

In the case of weak blood making, the areas we have to give attention to are the bone marrow and the heart.

On a vibration and frequency level, they are the same, they get each other. They work together with blood connecting them, like two ends of an electric circuit. If the bone marrow feels something, the heart feels it and reacts and vice versa.

So here is a simple exercise to bring awareness to both of them. It is simple and you can do it anywhere, any time, once you’ve gotten used to it.

1) Breathe, relax and feel your heart beat. Put your hand on your heart and feel your heart beat if it’s the first time you’re doing this. When you have picked up your heart beat, then let your hand fall and continue to feel your heart beat from inside.

2) Feel the vibration of the heart beat in your liver, just beneath your chest on your right side, and on the left side, your spleen. Both of these play a big role in maintaining blood in the body.

3) Become aware of the report or echo of the heart beat coming from the bones, the center of the bones to be precise.
You can choose one particular bone or area, like the hands or the feet, or the skull, or you can feel a ‘surround report’, like when a gun goes off in the center of the valley and standing right there you get an echo from all sides.

Know that it is not mental awareness that’s the aim here but holistic awareness which is also physical and very importantly emotional.

The cells of our heart, of our bones, they have memory, they have feelings, they have hopes and wishes. When you become aware of them, you might become aware of deep disappointment, loneliness, pain, shock, grief that you didn’t know you had. These might be irrational, they might be from some situation you thought you left behind a long time ago.

Just give your feelings respect. And make time every day perhaps even many times a day to become aware of your heart and the report of your heart beat from the bone marrow.

Herbs to support Blood Function

There are three colors in the blood.

Hibiscus, Rosehips, Rhododendron, Cactus, Nettle, Strawberries; these all help the red part of the blood.
Herbal Treatments for Heart, Blood & Circulation

Milk thistle, Dandelion, Wheatgrass; these help the yellow part of the blood, the liver that is. Bitter herbs usually support the liver.
Herbal Treatments for Liver Support

Mistletoe, Violet, Echinacea, Fenugreek; these help the white part of the blood, spleen and lymphatic function that is. The spleen is stimulated by sweet things. Refined white sugar is bad for you, but there are so many other ways to have sweet in your life.

A little sweet, a little bitter.

You will find your self drawn to some or all of these, or other herbs. Have those as teas or as tinctures, or get me or someone who knows what they’re doing to make you a blend of extracts.

When you take herbal medicine for a condition, twice or thrice a day, not only are you providing your body the tiny amounts of particular nutrition it needs to heal from a situation, you’re also speaking to your own self in an ancient primal language that both your body and the more subtle parts of you, like your sub-conscious understands. It is all round, a powerful method of healing.

How to Heal your Voice

Throughout history humans have used the nuances of voice to understand one another. We understand instinctively what we really mean by the little jumps and stops and changes in tone and pitch and volume of our voices.

My interest in the topic started back in school days when the school choir was competing in a big competition and we were all very careful to keep our voices in order through the months of practice for the big day. I noticed all the things affecting our voices, and very little was about catching a cold.

At one point in my life trauma made me unable to sing for years.

I found out that heart trouble and voice trouble go together.

To heal our voice, means to give our soul wings again.

To give our soul wings again, we need to get to the point where we feel we are beautiful again.

That important thing being said, while we’re waiting for that to happen, here are:

Three things to heal the Voice holistically

1) Normalize base body temperature

In my school days when I was part of the choir, I would stand with the other girls outside the door of the school hall where we would practice every morning at 8, waiting for the doors to be opened. In the chilly early morning we would try to warm up a bit and many would be pretty much croaking.

I learned then that body warmth affects the voice a LOT.

Those who have voice problems invariably have a problem maintaining a stable correct body temperature. It falls below normal because of trauma, or hormonal imbalance.

A herb that is excellent to help establish a stable body temperature in Mistletoe.

Yes, the same one under which some kissing ought to happen this month. It has to be taken long term though, as changing base body temperature is something that takes time.

Oh, you reading are under the Mistletoe right now, so mmmmmmuah. There you have been kissed. Merry Christmas to you too.

For men, to raise body temperature Nettle tea is great. It has to be had in small doses though as it can have a laxative effect.

For women (and men whose hands have gotten REALLY cold), the Pitcher Plant, or Drosera is an immediate pick-me-up.

Pitcher Plant - Drosera

Look at the beauty of this carnivore plant. It traps insects going in and contracts and chews up the insects with its sheer muscle strength. A whole lot of heat is generated through this process.. muscle heat. It’s very impressive.

2) Tone up the muscles

The voice is all about the muscles. From the heart which is a muscle, to the lungs which are muscle to the vocal cords themselves, to the tongue which again, is a muscle, it’s all about tone and strength and flexibility.

Exercises that build muscle strength and flexibility, the ability to contract and expand rhythmically, will not only drastically help your voice heal, but will do so many other wonderful things for the body.

Breathing exercises, just simple deep breathing, hold the breath as long as possible and then slowly releasing it, makes a big difference. Just practice deep breathing for about five minutes whenever you can through the day.

Exercise that traumatizes the lungs also traumatizes the voice, so it’s important to keep things peaceful and calm.

Then there is nutrition for the muscles.

It is easy to incorporate these into your schedule. They must be used for at least a few months, in small doses once a day at least.

Saw Palmetto
Saw Palmetto

This is one powerful herb for the muscles everywhere and therefore for the voice as well. It helps the muscle tissue let go of lumps of material they can’t use but are still holding on to because they don’t get enough nutrition when they need it. This makes muscle tissue smooth and functional insteaf of lmped up and rusty. It’s what you take, especially men, if you have muscles tired because of either lack of exercise or over exercise and lack of enough rest in the long term. Muscle refreshing and toning, I suppose is what sums up Saw Palmetto.

Black Cohosh or Cimicifuga Racemosa

Black Cohosh helps muscle tissue recover from trauma because of blood pressure and hormonal excesses and imbalance. If you have had trauma to the uterus, heart or lungs either through trauma (like hemorrhage, cardiac arrests, asthma attacks) or anything that made either of these organs go into an abnormal panic, Black Cohosh will help recover. If you have it as tea it will soothe the inner lining of the throat which is a nice thing if you’re after healing your voice.

Pearl Millet

Pearl Millet

This one has got the nutrition required to support the muscles in letting dead cells go and making new healthier ones. A spoonful of powdered millet a day makes changes that can felt in as little as a week. It increases muscle strength gradually but surely.

3) Acknowledge what your voice is saying.

Voice is an expression of the soul. It has to be respected and listened to. Sometimes it’s easy to mentally understand what it’s saying by just listening to our voice with an open heart. Sometimes it’s not so easy. We have to learn to respect our Voice, and let it be. In every state we humans are beautiful. There is a right time for everything.

UPDATE

I recently found that the beautiful Butterfly Bush or Buddleja or Buddleia with it’s amazing soothing of traumatized nerve endings in places few other herbs reach, is a powerful first aid remedy as well as provider of rehabilitation of the nerves that support voice function.
